My Ambition in life

 MY AMBITION (AIM) IN LIFE

By Mrunal Shethiya

History is full of stories of great men who have achieved great success in life and have risen to great heights because of their ambition. Napoleon and Shivaji are two such great men.

Life without ambition is like a ship without a rudder. Ambition gives a definite direction to life. It also provides the necessary motivation and determination. We hardly ever find a traveler who does not know his destination. But we often come across people who live aimlessly, without any purpose.

Ambition should not be so high that we cannot achieve it. Neither should it be so low that it requires little efforts to realize it. Ambition should be determined with due regard to one's capacity and readiness to make efforts. It should be attainable and be worthy of attainment.

My ambition is to become a journalist. It is one job which is really challenging as well as thrilling. It gives one an opportunity to travel far and wide-within the country or even all around the world. You meet new people and face new situations every day. It provides you an opportunity to come in contact with people of all sorts, of all levels and status, and to know their condition and problems from close quarters. It provides great scope to bring to light anti-social activities and arouse people’s indignation against various social evils. Of course one runs considerable risk in such a job, but I am prepared for it. I think the thrill and excitement I would get from such a job is worth the price I may have to pay in terms of risks. It is the one single profession which affords an opportunity to handle effectively an instrument (pen) which is mightier than the sword.

I shall first complete my M.A. in English and then take up some course in journalism. In my spare time I shall learn typewriting. Shorthand and photography. These skills are a must for a journalist. I shall consider it my privilege if I get an opportunity to work with reputed dailies like The Times of India. The Indian Express’, ‘The Hindu. “The Amritbazaar Patrika’, or The Statesman’, or magazines like “The India Today’. I shall keep the lives of great journalists before my eyes and try to follow their footsteps. I shall do my duty without fear or favour.
